How did it all start?

PaleoTraining was first conceptualized in 2007 in Lanzarote (Canary Islands), Spain by Airam Fernandez, a physiotherapist and one of the world’s foremost experts on evolutionary fitness. In his private clinic, he began to notice that an increasing number of his patients were suffering from chronic pain, lower back pain, neck pain and muscle injuries. And he equally began to realize that he was treating the symptoms but not addressing the causes. From his own experience in competing in obstacle-type races in extreme weather conditions around the world, Airam had discovered that by using natural movements like running, jumping, hanging, pushing and throwing stuff around, his training was a lot more effective, engaging, fun, and most importantly it made him a lot happier.

Coupled with an insatiable curiosity in Evolutionary Medicine, Airam decided to systematically change his approach to his physiotherapy practice. He removed the traditional furniture and equipment of his clinic and introduced exercise items such as weights, rubber bands, matts and pull up bars. He started conducting several daily one hour “physio-exercise” sessions for his patients, prescribing nutrition plans based on unprocessed natural foods and measuring their progress. Very quickly the word spread and there was soon a need for a bigger facility to accommodate the increasing number of followers to his practice, and so in 2009, PaleoTraining was born.
